Allium canadense is a native garlic with strange and beautiful flowers. We love it because it has many uses: as an unconventional cut-flower, or an interesting texture in a garden, or as a food source for pollinators in a mixed meadow, or as an edible plant.

It forms its topset bulbs of green to sometimes reddish purple before it begins to flower, which gives the flower head its irregular shape. Pink-purple flowers emerge in spring and early summer, on tall, unbranched stalks above a narrow foundation of onion-like foliage.

Hardy and low-maintenance, it thrives in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade, and is resistant to browsing by deer and other mammals.
