Anemone virginiana, or Tall Thimbleweed, is a beautiful native anemone that stands out in gardens and makes a wonderful cut-flower or seedhead.

It is native to woodland clearings, where its graceful foliage forms tidy clumps and sends up 3' tall, somewhat branching straight stems with single creamy, green-centered flowers at the top. In the garden it looks lovely in masses and has a long season of interest. It is an easy grower in well-draining soils, and serves as a larval host plant for at least one moth species and a food source for native bees and hoverflies.

Cut-flower growers can choose to grow it as a tender perennial or, at tighter spacing, as a biennial.
