Blue Grama grass is a pint-sized bunching grass tolerant to drought and needing next to no maintenance. Its fine textured foliage makes it a great, native alternative for lawns.

If left unmowed, it only reaches about 12" tall with interesting seed heads. It prefers full or partial sun, and soils on the dry side, so it may not be suitable for wet areas, especially if shaded - but then again, few lawn grasses are. 

Its drought tolerance also makes it appropriate for green roofs and xeriscaping. It is a host plant for multiple butterfly species.
