Carex bromoides, or Common Brome Sedge, is an ornamental native grass perfect for shady lawn replacements. It is very similar to Carex pensylvanica, but with a finer texture and preferring more soil moisture. It forms a clump, and has early flowers that emerge with the first foliage in spring. Great for massing around taller specimen plants as a weed-suppressing groundcover in rain gardens and woodland edges. Can withstand periodic inundation.
