Bur Sedge is a wonderful sedge that merits more use in sunny rain gardens or shaded gardens alike. It can stand alone as a specimen plant with its impressive, star shaped flowering stems, and looks nice growing in masses. Around us it grows in woodland understories, in either wet or dry conditions.

Unlike many sedges, it reportedly is equally happy growing in full sun wetlands as in shaded, dry woodlands, and can withstand flooding. Wind pollinated, this plant does not attract pollinators but is an important food source for moth and butterfly larvae, and the seeds provide food for birds and mammals.
