Tussock Sedge thrives in wet meadows and shallow marshes, where it forms large clumps of fine textured foliage that provide important nesting habitat. On established plants, this looks like a skirt of mounded, dried grass below the upright mound of current, green growth.

This robust plant tolerates prolonged inundation, and supports diverse wetland ecosystems while requiring minimal maintenance. Perfect for ponds, pond edges, and wetland restoration, it nevertheless has attractive foliage all season long, interesting flowers, and grows well in average garden soils, making it a top garden performer in the Mt. Cuba Center's Sedge trials.
