Carex vulpinoidea, commonly known as fox sedge, is a native North American wetland plant used for erosion control and habitat restoration, in rain gardens, ditches and bioswales, on roadsides, pond edges, and in meadows and marshes. This hardy Sedge is versatile and can adapt to a wide range of conditions - full sun, part shade, areas prone to flooding or hanging over a rocky water feature - making it an easy to grow option. Under favorable conditions it can form colonies.

It makes a mound of finely textured foliage and attractive seed heads in summer, and serves as a larval host plant to several butterfly species.
