Tufted hairgrass is a dynamic cool-season grass that makes a wonderful lawn alternative or ground cover when spaced tightly, works well on green roofs, and can be used in wetland restoration. It forms a tidy mound of finely textured foliage from which emerges graceful seed heads at a height of 18-24". This hardy perennial thrives in moist soils and full sun to part-shade. Its skinny, airy seed heads can be used in flower arrangements.
