Eryngium yuccifolium, commonly known as rattlesnake master, looks as if it would be more at home among succulents in an arid desert, though in reality it is a carrot-family member native to much of Eastern North America (south and west of Pennsylvania, and as far North as Minnesota).

It is a striking native perennial featuring distinctive, pineapple-like flower heads reaching 3-4' up above foliage like an aloe plant. It makes a wonderful cut-flower and is commonly used for this purpose, growing well as a late-summer planted biennial.
