Eupatorium fistulosum is the Joe-Pye weed for our region and one of the tallest Joe-Pyes, reaching up to 8' tall in a single season once established (it dies back to the ground every year). In our neighborhood in midsummer, its large, pink flower clusters rise high above most plants in roadside ditches and wet areas on distinctive, whorled foliage.

This perennial forb thrives in moist, partial sun, where it can reach towering heights. But it also grows happily in our full-sun, well-draining farm soils - it just stays a little shorter in these conditions.

A cutback in mid spring will produce shorter, more numerous flowers useful for arranging. For cut-flowers, harvest when flower clusters are 25-50% open, before flowers begin to brown.

An absolute pollinator magnet!
