Boneset is a native perennial forb with traditional medicinal uses, though it makes a wonderful ornamental plant and pollinator food source. Its stem-clasping leaves are unique, with a rough texture and yet a delicate, long taper. Foliage is green but often sports a red lining when young, especially in spring. In summer, white flower clusters at 3-4' attract loads of pollinators.

We usually see it in meadows that do not fully dry out, or in and around ditches, though the plant is tough and highly adaptable. It will turn into a large clump overtime and can drop lots of seed nearby, so it may be happiest competing with other vigorous growers. It provides winter interest in landscaping, and makes a great choice for restoration, roadside plantings, and meadows.

Useful as a cut-flower in its bud or early flowering stage, we're also evaluating its use as a foliage cut even earlier in the season.
