Helianthus giganteus, commonly known as Tall Sunflower, is a striking deciduous perennial reaching impressive heights year after year - up to 8' tall! It is one of our native sunflowers that branches and produces masses of vibrant yellow blooms with yellow-green centers beginning in July.

This is a tough, robust plant that can spread via rhizomes, so may not be appropriate for small garden spaces. But it is perfect for large or contained garden spaces where height is needed, or as an annual 'living fence,' or competing happily in meadows. It prefers moist soil but grows well in our often-dry farm fields, and prefers full sun but is happy in partial sun as well.

Tall Sunflower makes a wonderful cut-flower. Growers can plant as annuals, biennials or perennials, pinching early for shorter, more consistent stems, or leaving them unpinched for massive stems that can be used in large arrangements.
