Irises like the Northern Blue Flag have some of the showiest flowers of our native plants. It thrives in wet environments like pond edges, but can be grown successfully in more average garden soils as long as they don't dry out for long periods. This native perennial produces striking blue-purple flowers in early summer. Hardy and low-maintenance, it attracts pollinators while stabilizing wetland ecosystems. Spreads slowly by rhizomes.
