Soft rush is an easy to grow plant as long as it's planted in soils that don't fully dry out. It is the most common rush worldwide, recognizable by its slender, hollow green stems flowering clusters that emerge part way up each leaf.

This perennial thrives in moist conditions, making it ideal for water gardens, pond edges, wetland restoration, bioswales and ditches. It is an undemanding plant happy to compete with other tall growers, and provides valuable habitat and food to numerous species.

Useful as an interesting cut-flower, it should be harvested before the tips above the seedheads brown.
