Lysimachia ciliata, commonly known as Fringed Loosestrife, is an important and under-utilized native woodland wildflower. In our area, we see it along shaded ditches and in understory edges, though we've successfully grown it in full sun in our farm fields. It is a robust plant that can easily reach 3-4' tall if supported by other plants around it - otherwise, stems may flop over, though this can be mitigated by pinching early in the season. Above a water-feature this trait makes for an elegant, arching display of rounded, chartreuse foliage, and in the summer its branching stems of striking yellow flowers with red centers. Its tendency to lean over can also make the plant suitable as a groundcover in shaded areas. It may spread a bit by rhizomes, so is not appropriate next to smaller plants.

Yellow-flowered Loosestrifes are critical for the survival of native ground nesting bee populations of the genus Macropis.

This native Loosestrife also makes an excellent cut-flower.
