Monarda fistulosa, or Wild Bergamot, is a native perennial wildflower common in meadows, pastures and hayfields of Eastern North America. This hardy plant thrives in well-drained soil and full sun conditions, though it can take some shade and is happy in nearly any garden setting. People love it for the interesting flowers and wonderfully aromatic foliage, and it has been historically used in tea and medicines. The tubular flowers attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds throughout summer months, and it is the host plant for a native butterfly. It also makes an excellent cut flower fresh or dried.
