Pycnanthemum muticum, commonly known as Clustered Mountain Mint, is one of the most popular native forbs, and it's easy to see why. It's aromatic foliage is a pleasure throughout much of the growing season, and its strong, upright stems and unique, powdered bracts make it a beautiful addition to gardens, as well as a versatile cut-flower when used fresh or dried. The plant is robust and extremely low maintenance once established. It is happiest in average soils with partial to full sun.

This plant is an absolute pollinator magnet, but like many minty plants is unpalatable to deer and other mammals. Its stiff stems will stay mostly erect through the winter, adding visual appeal to gardens all year round. Beautiful in masses or growing among other plants in the 3-4' range, it may grow too vigorously next to petite plants.

Unlike Pycnanthemum tenuifolium, it cannot be harvested in the foliar stage for cut-flowers but must wait until flowering or seed set.
